The book surveys Russian Orthodox icons produced in Moscow (and related centres) between the 14th and 17th centuries.
It contains numerous reproductions of icon paintings that once adorned cathedrals in Zagorsk, Vladimir, and Moscow. Many of these works are now held in major Russian museums (for example, the Kremlin and the Tretyakov Gallery).
