Lithuanian Emigration to the United States 1868-1950
Santrauka: In this book we will also survey the ties between the Lithuanian nation and its emigrants, the significance of these ties, the historically rooted economic, social, and political causes of Lithuanian emigration (especially from 1868 to 1944), and the establishment of emigrant centers (colonies). We will follow the development of emigration, its routes, and the social status of emigrants. We will attempt to analyze the ratio between emigration and reemigration, the position of the leaders of the Lithuanian national liberation movement regarding emigration before World War I and from 1920 to 1940, and the economic and social ties between the Republic of Lithuania and its emigrants. We will not undertake to discuss the activities of emigrant mutual aid, cultural, and political organizations.
