Simone leaves home to work at the Hotel Delouche and soon finds herself falling in love with the owner's son Francois. For a time life is wonderful until the arrival of an English beauty with whom Francois becomes obsessed.

Miranda's idyllic life in France is shattered when her husband is killed. Returning to London, she stays in contact with friends Chloe and Rick. But when Chloe's letters dry up and Rick starts writing instead, she is worried. When Chloe is found dead, Miranda knows she has to return to France.
